Dear Svetlana and Alina Thank you for your kind letter asking to be paired with us for the Christmas Card exchange. I am sorry to have taken such a long time to respond, but wehave been working with another school in Ryazan, and time was short. I hope you found someone with whom to have an exchange. I looked at the projects your children did. They are all beautiful! I am so impressed with their work that I am going to forward your e mail to our artteacher, Ms. Huggler, to see if she would be interested in doing some kind of cooperative project with you and your art teacher. Ms. Huggler is verytalented and the work she does with our children is magnificent. Our school is PS 35, an elementary school. The "PS" stands for "Public School." Our children range from ages 4 to 11. It's located in the borough ofQueens, in New York City. In the US, the word "gymnasium" refers to a large, open space with a very high ceiling where people play sports. It usually hasbleachers (plank seating) around the perimeter and a wooden floor that is carefully maintained. When using the gymnasium, you have to wear sneakers toprotect the finish on the floor. If you watch American sports on television, our basketball games are played in gymnasia. I'm sure you have gymnasia inUkraine. What name do you give to these kinds of facilities? There is a popular children's book, called Rechenka's Eggs, written by Patricia Palacco, that we share wtih our students around Easter time. I know thatin Ukraine, decorating eggs for Easter is an old tradition, and the eggs are splendid! And what is more delicious than a cup of tea with a piece of babka? How nice to get a note from someone in that part of the world! Again, thank you for your letter to us, and I am sorry we were unable to work together. I wish you the best of luck.
